Niya Smith

NIYA SMITH (she/her), an Atlanta native, seeks individuality and authenticity through movement.

She began her training at Dancemakers of Atlanta under the direction of Denise Heard Latimer and Lynise Heard and continued her studies through summer programs with BODYTRAFFIC, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and Kyle Abraham Dance Vanguard. Smith earned a BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance. 

A YoungArts Awardee (2021) and recipient of the President's Award for Achievement from the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance (2025), Smith performed works by George Balanchine, Yue Yin, Alvin Ailey, and Kevin Wynn during her time at Purchase.

She credits her growth as an artist to the mentors, teachers, and community members who have helped shape her journey. Smith joined Kyle Abraham Dance Vanguard in 2025.
