About the Performance
Cassette Vol 1. is equal parts camp and critique. The choreography features a hybrid movement language that honors dance lineages that may not be immediately obvious, while highlighting the nuances of the non-monolithic Black experience and its consumption within American culture. At its core, the work makes space for the ridiculous and the referential, inviting the audience to laugh at the extremes and cry for the subtle humanity of memories lost.
